Cordgrass Bridge was completed on January 30, 2021. The bridge replaced a fallen log that had been part of the original trail between the Cordgrass and Bent Grass entrances β a practical but precarious crossing that served its purpose in the trail's earliest days.
The new bridge brought this section of the Orange Trail up to the same standard as the rest of the system, making the crossing safer and more accessible for hikers of all abilities, including families with children and those on bikes.
The bridge takes its name from the Cordgrass trail entrance it serves, named for the native cordgrass (Spartina) that grows in the wetland areas nearby β a hardy plant well adapted to the wet, brackish-influenced soils along the Alafia River corridor.
Completed January 30, 2021, Cordgrass Bridge replaced a fallen log that had served as the original crossing between the Cordgrass and Bent Grass entrances. It took a small but determined crew working over the creek to get it done.
The Finished Bridge
Cordgrass Bridge fully stained and complete β a proper crossing connecting the Cordgrass and Bent Grass trail entrances.
All the amenities of the trail system are maintained by volunteers. Students can receive Bright Futures Service hours for helping. Follow trail events and contact the trail leaders at the Trails of River Hills Facebook page.
