Bridge #1 was "rediscovered" on January 20, 2020, during the very first trek on the original trails. This discovery was a pivotal moment β finding an existing bridge verified that the original trail system truly existed and that more exploration was needed.
This first bridge served as proof of concept for the entire trail restoration effort, inspiring the volunteer group to press on and explore further into the preserve. Without this discovery, the Trails of River Hills as we know them today might not exist.
These photos show Bridge #1 as it was found on the very first trek β weathered, leaf-covered, and partially deteriorated, but still standing. Its discovery proved the original trail system existed and sparked the entire restoration effort.
Volunteers returned to rebuild Bridge #1 from the ground up β setting new posts in concrete and laying fresh pressure-treated decking. A full crew turned out to get it done.
